Resin Driveway Installation Process in Arnold
Resin driveways are a popular choice for their durability, aesthetic appeal, and low maintenance. The installation process of a resin driveway is meticulous and requires professional expertise to ensure a long-lasting and high-quality finish. Here's an overview of the typical installation process:
Step 1: Preparation
This initial stage involves cleaning an existing driveway surface or laying a new base to ensure a stable foundation for resin application.
Step 2: Base Layer
After a stable foundation has been established, a solid base, usually concrete or tarmac, is prepared, providing essential support for the resin layer.
Step 3: Mixing Resin
Quality resin is then meticulously mixed with chosen aggregates, ensuring a consistent and high-quality mixture for the driveway.
Step 4: Application
The resin and aggregate mix is evenly applied over the base layer, ensuring thorough coverage and uniform thickness.
Step 5: Smoothing
The driveway surface is expertly smoothing out for a flawless finish, achieving a level and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Step 6: Curing
Finally, the driveway is left to cure and set properly, solidifying the driveway for durability and longevity.
What is the difference between Resin Bound & Resin Bond Driveways in Arnold
The difference between resin bound and resin bond driveways lies in their composition, appearance, and functionality.
Arnold Resin Bound Driveways
- They are created by mixing resin with aggregate stones in a forced action mixer, resulting in a uniform mix.
- The mix is then troweled onto the driveway area, producing a smooth, flat, and permeable surface.
- Resin bound driveways are porous, allowing water to seep through, which makes them SUDS compliant and doesn't typically require UK planning permission.
- They are known for their durability, being crack-resistant, and low maintenance needs.
- A wide range of aggregate stones can be used, allowing for various designs and colours.
- Typically, resin bound surfaces have a life expectancy of over 25 years.
Arnold Resin Bonded Driveways
- In this system, resin is spread across the base, and aggregate stones are scattered on top. Most of the aggregate adheres to the resin, but some remain loose, giving the appearance of loose gravel.
- This type of driveway is not permeable, which means it doesn't comply with SUDS regulations and may require additional drainage solutions.
- Resin bonded driveways have a textured finish and provide high levels of grip, making them ideal for areas requiring maximum grip like disabled ramps.
- They are also durable but may require more maintenance compared to resin bound systems, as stones can become loose over time.
- The life expectancy of a resin bonded driveway is usually between 10 to 15 years.

FAQs for Resin Driveways
Costs will vary depending on the size of the drive, the materials used, and the time and labour costs involved. No two resin driveway projects are the same. Please contact us and we will be happy to provide a free site survey and quote and a timeframe for completion.
This depends on the type and condition of your existing driveway. It should be laid on an appropriate sub-base of either asphalt or concrete.
We say your new resin bound system is weed resistant rather than weed free. Whilst nothing will grow up through the surface, air born seedlings may land on top, causing a small amount of growth. We recommend applying a weed killer once or twice a year if this should happen.
The life expectancy of a resin bound driveway is over 15 years, but you could get more than this if it has been properly maintained.
Resin bound is an eco-friendly, highly porous solution for ground surfacing. It is a choice of decorative aggregates mixed with specialist resins then hand trowelled to give a smooth flat surface suitable for driveways, paths, and patios.
Resin bond is laid in a different manner to resin bound materials. It involves applying a layer of resin to the existing surface to which aggregates are then scattered on top of. This gives a non-porous surface, which has a coarser finish and leaves a certain amount of loose stone on the final surface.
